Understanding the meaning of different colours

As a part of my research I have tried to find information that will help me understand what colours mean to people to have an idea of what colours I could use on my magazine and also understand why magazines use some pictures and what does it represent.

High visibly

May be negative as linked with war

Asia – symbol of royalty

Blue
Depth and stability
Symbol of freedom
Associated with tranquillity, wisdom and loyalty
Security

China-Associated with immorality

Associated with Enthusiasm

Create invigorating effect
Symbol of fall and harvest

Ireland – religious significance

Green
Associated in nature, youth, fortune, and vigour
Also associated with the feelings of envy and jealousy

Colour of Islam

Purple
Connotes royalty, nobility, wealth
Symbolic of wisdom, magic and arrogance
Associated with mourning
75 per cent of pre-adolescent children prefer purple than any other colours.

Grey

Associated with security and solid
Linked with maturity old age and dignity
Symbolic of conservatives and boredom
Brown
Associated with earth, home and comfort

Pink
Associated with romance and love
Felling of calmness

White
Purity and faith
Clinical elements- hospital
Colour of perfection
Peace

Black
Gothic representation – death and evil
Symbol of grief
Associated with power and fear
Positive connotations- elegance and class
