Photo-shoot planning sheet
Title:
Front cover photos

Photo-shoot concept:
Photos will need to be taken so it will represent people that are R&B and POP fans who are really entitled with music (instruments may be represented). The person on the cover will need to be in the same age group that my target audience.

Aims:
From this shoot I want to persuade readers to buy this magazine. I want people to look at the model represented on this photo and wanting to be the same. I will try to get people attraction and clear message about this magazine and what this magazine represents.

Date and timing:
These pictures will be taken during day time and that light will make the pictures look natural, I’m planning to take those photos between 24th December and 31th December. The date for pictures that will be taken on white and black background will be booked between the 5th January and 15th January.

Location:
The picture for front cover will be taken in park so there will be green background pictures will also be taken on the bench as this is where teenagers (my target audience) like to spend their time.  I will also take photos on white and black background to see which will look better and then I will choose one picture.

Props:
The costume that will be required will have to suitable and similar to the fashion that the target audience ware. The main character will have to ware dark colours but at the same time it will have to stand out: Leather jacket or dark blue cardigain, blue shirt, leggings and pair of black hills. The coslours will be dark, dark blues and black . The colours have to link.

Model:
The model will have to be female in the age between 16years old and 24 years old, so it is representing the target audience age and will bring their attention. The model will have to glamour make up and represent music. I will try get few models but the main one will have dark hair as it will be good with white background I'm trying to used in my magazine.

Team:
Photographer, artist make-up, hair stylist and fashion adviser. Those people will work with the model to make sure this will look professional.

Equipment & Preparation:
I will need to have camera and spare batteries as well as memory card. Make –up and hair equipment’s as well as prepare cloths with the fashion stylist. I will have to book an appointment with those specialists and as what also I will need to prepare. I will also book an appointment with Mr Martin who is in charge of borrowing white and black background to take photo shoots.

Desired Shots (Draw sketches):
I could have extra lights so the background will be much lighter as the model will be represented mainly in darker colours.  The shoots will be taken as mid shots or long shoots. I will prepare the model in different positions to see what I would like the shoot to look like, and then I will take different photos.  I will also produce storyboard representing different shoots and ideas to visual my ideas.

Reference images:
I will print images and sit with the model and all advisers and we will discuss each picture we will decide which one we all agree to use. I will also produce mood board to see which picture will suit the target audience.

Picture that inspire me:

In this picture I like the green background and this is what I would like to use on my pictures.

In this picture I like the close up of the model face, we can see her emotions and natural beauty which has been shown here. This brings female attraction

In this photo I like the close up which represent the model, there is contrast between white background and the wearing of the model and her dark hair.

Target audience for my magazine

Target audience for my magazine

In order to sell magazine I have to see what I will be allowed to put to my magazine in order to get the specific target audience that will be interested in buying my magazine. I have researched what people are interested by looking at the different types of people depending on their jobs and education. I have looked at the acorn demographics calculations to see the different class of people to see what may be their possible interest.
Language

The magazine has to be written in language that the target audience uses in everyday life, if the magazine will be for kids the language have to be easy to understand. Teenagers’ uses slang which should be used in magazine for teenagers. Magazine for adults that have got families have to be written in formal language full of explanations and tips, where magazine for adults that are successful in their career such as Doctors, people who are working in business have to be written in very formal language .

Pictures
Magazine for kids will have to be colourful and use little bit of text. It has to represents pictures of nature such as flowers and animals and has rebuses. Magazines for teenagers have to have more text and fewer pictures than kids’ magazine. Pictures must represent people in their age and their issues. Magazine for adults who have kids have to have pictures of children and audiences about children and who to look after them (e.g. tips for doctors or psychologists). Magazine for successful adults have to have classical pictures – black and white and contain lots of text.

People are divided in to different classes from A-Q which is divided by the financial status. The “acorn “has collected data which shows the number of people for each groups information such as whether they are smokers, how many people have crime effaces from this group. By looking at this table I can guess what different groups of people are interested in. For example: this table show me that in group A there is
229. 000 people who have ISA so that shows me that my magazine could contain information about ISA in order to grab group A attraction.
My target audience
I’m producing music magazine. The target audience will be teenagers in age between 16yers old -25 years old which is linked as group F Definition; Students who rent flats, who have low income. I want my magazine to be specific for females.

This shows how many people are interested in group F in different facilities. This shows that they are mainly using e-mails and Phones to communicate so this is what type of advertisements and what they would like to read about.

My magazine is going to be a music magazine; teenagers in specific age group I have chosen are mainly interested in POP and R&B music.
What should my magazine include?
·         Pictures – females – R&B theme
·         65% of text

Analysing my school magazine cover

Analysing my school magazine cover

The magazine master head is “St. Gregory’s “it represents the school that the magazine represents. It makes it look professional and also tells the reader that this magazine is created by the St. Gregory’s students and it is about the school. It is written is bigger font in white colour so it stands out on the dark background which is lighter at the top of the page. The puff is “Magazine that will show you the real life in school” which is black and much smaller under the master head which looks like it links with the master head and the massage given by the title. The Puff give the reader know that this magazine will have “real” in term of valuable, correct news and massages about what is happening in school.

The readers will also find a plug with the price of the magazine which is £0.49 which is affordable price for students who do not work. There is also another plug which will bring the reader’s attention as it say “Must have exclusive interview with the head teacher” so the readers will find it very persuading.

On the left hand side of the magazine at the top magazine I have placed the school logo which creates connection with the master head and also proofs it and connect with the school that magazine is provided for.  The logo fits with the magazine as it contain white, red and blue colour which represent the class look and make the audience think that the school is very professional and it goes well with the master head as both contain white colours. Where on the other side of the page I have placed a picture of school cross which is bigger (longer) the picture opposite it. The picture is in blue and yellow colour which represents peace and power, but as well links with the theme as the school that the magazine is provided fro is catholic and cross is symbolising the religion and creates connection.

On the middle of the page there is a mid-shot picture which is slightly on the left hand side but going across the middle. This picture represents girl playing guitar. This picture is dark and it looks professional as well as it represents hard work and talents that may be seen in the school. The dark colours that are dominating in this cover shows that this school is very powerful and classical (like to stick up with the theme) where the picture shows that the school also accept people with talents. Above the picture I have made connection by placing cover line “biggest school from, win 2 free tickets” which links with the picture, which will make the readers fell like inside the magazine they will find more information about the big event as well as win a prize. This will persuade them to buy the magazine. The cover line is written in red which is a strong colour and brings the readers attraction but also links with the logo.

“This Friday assembly! Mass carried by father John. During the assembly we will find out the conclusion of last meeting about free canteen food.” Is one of the cover lines that are placed on the cover page which is written in white colour so it stands out. It also brings the readers attraction and shows the serious issues that are happening at school and shows that the magazine is taking care of the student’s problems and getting them all “fresh” new news. This is to persuade the readers to buy this magazine. Both cover lines are linked as they are representing one day that’s why are putted together.  The another cover line opposite this one is saying “Is he ever going to be punished” said 13 years old Amy that has been attacked during lunch time.” Is showing the shocking story told by one of the student who has been attacked, this helps the magazine in sale scale as people will want to read this shocking story.

Analysing my school content page

The content page background is exactly the same as the cover page which links those pages. There is also a school magazine head line on the top which is in red colour which is linked with the colour that is found on the school logo. Underneath the head line the readers will find the “content page “which is written in blue colour with again as the headline is represented in colour that is placed on the school logo.

The content page have to contain information about the page that are going to bring the readers attraction, the descriptions have to be very interesting and easy to cutch. On the left hand side of the content page written in white colour the reader will find the page number and description of what they will find on each page. In the first column the page numbers go to page 27 which is details about the sport day. The second column includes only 2 pages with little description underneath the headline that gives the reader more details about what will be find inside the magazine. There is also picture placed in the middle column representing a helper teacher helping student with their work which also links with the little description that is written in small font saying “more helpers needed”

The third column is started with the details about the double page spread and it is also represented with a picture of a model that have been represented on the cover page but in different position , showing the careens and practising .  There is also little description telling the rears on which page they can find the information and little description “ the biggest show in school “ which shows them that they have to read this as this is the biggest thing that the school have ever seen. Underneath this the readers will find another description and page for a main story in the magazine that is new study rooms for the GCSE students which the pupils will find very interesting therefor picture is used that represent student learning. The pages are going up to 49 which makes the magazine more interesting for the students.

At the bottom of the page the readers will find address of school website where they will be able to find more information about the school as well as the magazine.

Analysing the "Q" magazine

The master head looks like logo it is just a single letter in simple structure, underneath the “Q” letter is a small strap line “a different kind of music” it is included in the master head. It is placed on the left hand side on the top of the magazine.  I think this position of the master head is because is because a person in the Europe and USA reads from left to right hand side. The style of the lettering on the master head is simple where the “Q” is bigger so it stands out where the rest of the logo (master head) tag line included is written in much smaller font, the style of lettering is thinner so it looks simple and also shows that the “Q” the name of the magazines the most important. The master head takes 15 % of the cover. I think master head is very interesting, many other magazines uses the master head at the top of their magazines and it is spread along the cover. The colours used on the master head are very unique. The master head is in red box where the writing is white so it is easy to see as it stands out.

“A different kind of music” is the tag line on the master head; this makes the magazine look independent and interesting. The readers will think that they will find different information in this magazine then in any other magazine. It also show that the readers like different music they like to be different than anyone else and it makes the reader fell unusual. The range age of the Q magazine is 25-45 years old. The readers are mainly males. By looking at the cover picture there “Lily alien” is represented half naked this makes me think that this magazine is mainly for male as it brings male attention. The phrase of the “Male gaze” is that the male used to be in charge in media, all the programs and all the business aspects. It was all about the male attentions and attraction. The male is very interested in female bodies.

The cover lines in the q magazine are on the top right hand side of the page in a column. Usually the magazine layout is different the cover lines are at the bottom of the master head where in the Q magazine it is at the same level as the masthead. I think the position of the cover lines is that this is what brings the reader’s attention and the Q magazine what their readers to see is, it is also very important is the magazine as important as the name of the magazine as the cover lines is that the readers what to read it has to be shocking and shows as very important.  This makes the image look very big and the image is shown in full. (The reader can see full picture of the model.) Spread from left to right side. This makes connection with the image. This picture represents female. The lettering is quite big and thick so it is easy to spot. The lettering is white, black and red this appear to male. Word “beast” is blue and this connects with Lily Alien. The image shows lily alien with 2 animals and this is comparing with the word beast. The audience can see that she is like an animal (dangerous beast). There are 3 bands mentioned in the Q magazine cover as they are promoting the bands and stories that can be finding in the magazine. There is word “55pint interview” is used to grab the male attention as this is a type of male joke and this is addressed to the male population.

There are only 68 words used on the magazine cover. This makes the magazine look very professional as not many people like a lot of text especially when this is music magazine and the reader has the idea and expect pictures and music lists not full pages of text.   There are only 9 words in the centre of the image so the image is shows in full and this makes the connection with person shown on the picture. In the picture Lily Alien is turned around so we can see her back and she is turned left (looking left as well as at the readers). So the picture shows the left side of the face. On the picture she is wearing tights (black) and shorts (silver and black) so this is making contrast, with the magazine as the lettering is mainly black and white. The cover line crosses right in the middle of her body, so it stands out. Her surname is written in white cover so when it crosses her shorts it stands out on the patters on her cloths. The words written is in smaller font “& her wicked wicked ways” is it written in black and red so it is producing contrast, there is also literation and repetition used.

The cover lines at the bottom of the page say “elbow// how to buy queen // Pete Doherty & the hardest working corpses in music” it is much more different sort of bands that the main cover line. The cover contain the most popular/famous bands as this shows that the q magazine shows the audience the artist they are interested in. the readers want to read about the artist they are listing music, so it is more likely that somebody will buy magazine that contain fresh news about popular artist. By presenting their selves the artist is promoting the magazine also the artist is getting pay for it.

The Q magazine also publishes music groups like U2 and Oasis. The Q magazine involves other media like radio in the UK. The also use social networks like twitter and Facebook to advertise and become more popular.

Comparing the Sugar and Seventeen magazine

Sugar and Seventeen

The age level for the American magazine “Seventeen” is 13 to 17 years old girls, where the English magazine “Sugar” age level is 16-24 years old.

“Sugar” magazine title is over the picture. The font is very large and purple where the “Seventeen” magazine titles is cover by the models; the font is smaller and orange. “Seventeen” magazines is full of orange, white, and yellow colour, the “sugar” magazine contain purple, pink, blue, black and white colours. The pictures on both magazines are very different. There is two models on the Seventeen magazines are dresses up in very colourful clothes where the model on the Sugar magazine is dressed in classic black dress, suggesting that this magazine is for grown teenagers that like classic dresses.

On the “Seventeen” magazine cover there is a slogan used saying “Great body, Tons of $$, amazing clothes + mega confidence!” this shows me that this magazine is mainly for teenagers who ar4e going to Secondary school and care about their looks and shopping only. On the “Sugar” magazine I can see “14 must have celeb trends+ little black dress guide + accessories special” This shows me that this magazine is about fashion and love celebrities looks, so this magazine is more for girls who are going to sixth form or collages girls who like to compare their selves and looks to somebody wells known.

Both magazines uses different fronts and writing style, but the “Seventeen” magazine contain much more mixed styles and colours then “Sugar” magazine, which has less writing and the styles of writing are quite similar. The “Seventeen” magazine uses symbols $ which is used instead of dollar or money.

“Sugar” magazine contain pictures of “ring, handbag and other jewellery to show the best accessories deals that the reader can find inside the magazine. The “Seventeen” magazines have a star where I can see “coupons & freebies inside” this is trying to persuade the reader to buy this magazine as they will get many coupons with this magazine.

The “sugar” magazines expects the reader to be interested in reading their magazine, find fashion interesting, emotional, and love pretty looks and fell pretty , be confident about their looks. Also to be interested in their main stories those are put in to this magazine to grab the audience attention. The “Seventeen” magazines also expects their readers to buy their magazine but also to find pretty looks very important inspiring be sexual – loving their bodies. Both magazines have some similar expectations from their readers. The “Seventeen” magazines is trying to show the school fashion where the “Sugar” magazine shows a designers fashion that can be used at normal day life & work or higher education school.

In “Seventeen” magazine careers is given the same important as fashion and dating as both of this things are very important for teen girls. The “sugar2 magazine career and confidence is just as important as fashion because that is what the 16-24 years old girls think and care about.

Each magazine is trying the sell as many magazines as possible that’s what they are using shocking stories and advertise them on their cover page also they advertise what the reader can find inside and the best deals as special offers.
For me the “Sugar” magazine is the best I like fashion and beauty but career is very important to me this magazine helps me to look pretty and classic also teach me confidence which is very important in fashion, school and life.
